Q. Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?
A. No. However, some insurance companies require a doctor's note before they will reimburse you. Check with your broker.
Q. How long will I need to continue with treatment?
A. It depends on the nature of your injury, but usually 2 visits a week for 3-4 weeks.
Q. Will my insurance cover physiotherapy?
A. Most benefits packages include physiotherapy treatment. Please check with your provider.
Q. What should I bring with me to my appointment?
A. Please bring shorts, a T-shirt and a sports bra for women.
Q. How is physiotherapy different from massage therapy or chiropractic?
A. Massage therapists (MTs), chiropractors and PTs treat the same conditions, but use varying techniques. Unlike MTs, physiotherapists are not limited to soft tissue and can correct the joint dysfunction that may be the source of your pain. And unlike the more passive process of chiropractic and massage, physiotherapy is an active one that requires your participation.
